Lou McCurdy

More plastic then plankton

06062007_LA-LM-Image-1.jpg

Lou McCurdy’s installation is created from plastic found on one Brighton beach in one year.  The first ever environmental exhibition for the Brighton Fringe Festival taking place at the Brighton Fishing Museum along the busy seafront.

The exhibition shows work made from a year’s worth of beach collecting. From the plastic flotsam - meters of rope. nylon fishing nets. plastic bottles. disposable lighters and more – she has built an extraordinarily beautiful and disturbing world. discovering dreamlike shapes and new resonances in the old discarded items

For Lou it wasn’t just a process of reconstruction. it was also a year of learning about the impact of man-made products on marine life.

With support from Surfers Against Sewage and the Marine Conservation Society Lou will develop this idea and spread it around the country.
